Welcome Week at UMBC is jam-packed with great programs, parties, and opportunities to meet your fellow students, new and returning alike. UMBC Hillel joins the University in welcoming you to campus and welcomes you at all of our Events:
Monday, August 25, 6–9 PM, Erickson Field: FRISBERRIES—get some fresh berries and whipped cream and toss around a disc as you connect and reconnect.
Wednesday, August 27, 10 AM–4 PM, Commons Breezeway: MY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Enjoy some milk & cookies and have a silly picture taken on your first day.
Wednesday, August 27, 5–8 PM, Interfaith Center Lawn: CAFÉ HILLEL—coffee, tea, and snacks.
Thursday, August 28, 11 AM–4 PM, Commons Main Street: WHAT THE HILLEL? Mezuzah-making (a mezuzah is the box that holds some biblical passages that it’s customary to attach to your doorpost).
Thursday, August 28, 5–8 PM, Interfaith Center Lawn: CAFÉ HILLEL—coffee, tea, and snacks.
Friday, August 29, 6 PM, Interfaith Center: SHABBAT, A SWEET TIME—Services at 6 PM, dinner at 6:45 PM, come for either or both. Dinner is free of charge (this week and every week). A group will head to the hypnotist afterward and hang out later Friday night.
Saturday, August 30, 12 Noon, 3116 Walker—BAGEL & LOX SHABBAT LUNCH (natkup@umbc.edu for more info–If you’re standing on the Commons Circle with Walker Avenue to your right, Shane’s entrance is the door all the way to the left.)
Monday, September 1, 5 PM, Meet in Chesapeake Lounge—watch the movie ACCEPTED and go to dinner afterward.
Tuesday, September 2, 3 PM, by the coffee place in the Commons: TEA WITH TANYA—meet Tanya Gutsol, UMBC Hillel’s Jewish Student Life Coordinator and schmooze about your first week so far. Drink some tasty tea and have a great conversation.
Tuesday, September 2, 5–8 PM, Interfaith Center Lawn: CAFÉ HILLEL—coffee, tea, and snacks
Wednesday, September 3, 5 PM, Erickson Field—BBQ WITH JSU (Jewish Student Union)—enjoy some kosher meat and veggie options straight from the grill.
